Mental health is one of the most prominent issues we face as humans in the United States and around the world. The number of people living with mental illness in the United States continues to increase exponentially. Mental health involves emotional, psychological, and social well-being, and it affects how we think, feel, act, make choices, and relate to others.

You can play a role in maintaining your mental health by taking the time to do things that help you live well and improve both your physical health and mental health. You can care for your mental health by getting regular exercise, eating healthy, making sleep a priority, doing relaxing activities, and setting goals and priorities.

Above all, practice gratitude by reminding yourself daily of things you are grateful for. Avoid negativity and focus on positivity. Recognize and confront your negative and unhelpful thoughts. But remember, if you are experiencing severe or distressing symptoms that have lasted two weeks or more, seek professional help. There is no shame or weakness in asking for help.
