Believe in Yourself
Another concern that people have since COVID-19 entered our daily lives is their self-esteem. Self-esteem is our sense of self-worth or personal value. It is how much we like and value ourselves. When you experience low self-esteem, you sometimes stay in the background and try not to be noticed. Sound familiar? How many of us have moved to the background and tried not to be noticed since the pandemic started? Another factor that can impact self-esteem is ignoring our own needs.
As humans, we feel good when we do things that please others, but over time it can leave us feeling ignored and worthless. While it's good to offer help to others, our self-esteem increases when our relationships become more give-and-take. When we learn to express our own needs and ask for help, our appreciation of our value is going to grow as we see that others also value us and are willing to help us.
A healthy level of self-esteem is critical to success in life. It means we believe in ourselves and are more willing to take chances. Thinking we have to be perfect also affects self-esteem. No human is perfect or can achieve perfection. We are works in progress, and it's okay to make a mistake or two. It can be scary to take chances when we can't be sure of the outcome. But when we take that chance, and it turns out well, it provides an enormous boost to our self-esteem and self-confidence. So, if you are feeling low self-esteem, try something new or uncertain. It is almost always better than staying stuck.
